Legendary TV director was behind mega-hits like “Cheers,” “Taxi,” and “The Simpsons” but now, after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, he’s dedicating most of his fortune to animal causes. “omg! Insider” co-anchor Thea Andrews sat down with Sam who opened up about his diagnosis and philanthropy. Reflecting on his life, Sam told Thea, “I’ve had the most idyllic life that anybody could have and I’ve always been aware of it.” And with only months left to live, he is in a race to give all his money to charity. He started the Sam Simon Foundation to rescue stray dogs, Peta’s headquarters is named after him and he opened a food bank that now feeds 400 families vegan food every day. His latest worthy cause is saving whales. Sam bought a boat, featured on “Whale Wars” on Animal Planet airing Friday, whose mission is to block Japanese fisherman from hunting whales. And when Thea asked what change he would like to see in the world, Sam simply replied, “Less suffering.” Check out the vid to hear Thea’s full interview with Sam and be sure to tune in to “omg!
