Woman preserves pennies as jewelry

The Canadian penny was at its peak in 2006, with almost 1.3 billion minted that year. On Feb. 4, the Royal Canadian Mint ceases distributing the Canadian penny, which dates back to 1858.

The Royal Canadian Mint has officially ended its distribution of pennies on Monday, Feb. 4, but Halifax-based jewelry maker Renee Gruszecki found a way to preserve Canadian one-cent coins by turning them into jewelry for Coin Coin Designs and Co.
