While each year celebs vie for industry-specific trophies that validate their work, only a select few can say they’ve been named a knight or dame by Her Majesty the Queen. Established in 1917, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is an order of chivalry awarded at investiture ceremonies twice a year. Celebs are most often honored for their artistic contributions, as well as their charitable efforts.
