Why LeAnn Rimes is Right for ‘The X Factor’

The tart-tongued, tee-shirt wearing Simon Cowell could have some stiff competition for most dislikable TV talent show judge if LeAnn Rimes replaces Paula Abdul or Nicole Scherzinger as a judge on "The X Factor." A battle for the crown of Mr. or Ms. Uncongeniality -- along with the petite blonde's penchant for self-promotion and talent for saying and wearing the wrong things -- could help the show rocket past "American Idol" and "The Voice" in the ratings war for most popular sing-off.

After going on a frenetic firing spree in January, "The X Factor" has been launching its own informal talent search to find two new judges who can jump start the ratings when the show returns for its second season. Besides Rimes, other big name stars from the music biz -- from Britney Spears to Whitney Houston before her recent death -- have been tossed around as possible replacements.

Here's why we think the cat-eyed country singer would be the best choice:

She's a frequent tweeter: In this age of social media, Twitter has become one of the best ways to keep your name in the news. Websites use tweets as easy quotables for often inaccessible stars, and Rimes' constant chirping is sure to keep both herself and "X Factor" in the news.

She was once a talent contestant herself: Years before "American Idol" became a huge hit, an eight-year-old Rimes was the champion of TV's "Star Search" hosted by Ed McMahon. Ironically, "The Voice's" Christina Aguilera also got her start on that show.

She's a country girl: With "American Idol's" two finalists last year both country stars -- Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery -- it's obvious the country music audience is a major fan base of the TV singing talent genre. Though she may not be the most popular country music star today, Rimes has country road cred and could attract more twanger fans to the show.

She's controversial: Running off with her "Northern Lights" Lifetime movie co-star Eddie Cibrian when he was married to someone else made Rimes the "other woman" in a sharp-edged love triangle with "The Playboy Club" star's ex-wife, Brandi Glanville. It didn't help that LeAnn later gloated about being her two step-sons' "bonus Mom" and stuck her stilettos in "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star's face every chance she could.

She'll dress weird: Though she probably won't get to wear one of her itty bitty bikinis on stage (although Kara DioGuardi managed to pull that off once), Rimes' funky fashion sense will keep fans show curious to see if she'll remember to button her blouse or commit some other fashion felony.
