Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston lived her life as most superstars do, surrounded by an entourage that includes friends, family and handlers. Nonetheless, in very telling interviews with both Diane Sawyer and Oprah Winfrey, Houston said that at times she felt very much alone. CNN journalist Nancy Grace went so far as to wonder why no one on Whit's team was able to rescue her sooner. Grace even asked in the wake of her untimely death, "who pushed Whitney underwater?" It bears noting that the LA coroner is reporting that no foul play is suspected in the "I Will Always Love You" singer's death.

Still, we can't help but wonder, who were the people in this mega singer's life? Who did Whitney love while the public loved her so much? Let's review.

Aretha Franklin

Sure, Lady Aretha is known as the Queen of Soul but she also had another duty which she treasured. Aretha was Whitney's godmother. Franklin, like all of us, is in mourning for her goddaughter. She stated, "I just can't talk about it now, It's so stunning and unbelievable. I couldn't believe what I was reading coming across the TV screen. My heart goes out to Cissy, her daughter Bobbi Kris, her family and Bobby."

Mary Jones

Whitney's Aunt Mary was with her on that tragic night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Jones had laid out "The Bodyguard" star's outfit for the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party while her niece went to take a bath. When she returned a half an hour later and Houston still had not yet emerged from the tub, she found Whitney under water in the bathtub. She tried to resuscitate her Ms. Houston unsuccessfully as did the paramedics.

Jennifer Hudson

J-Hud and Brandy are a part of the younger generation of singer's that really looked up to Whitney as a role model. Brandy starred in Houston's multicultural "Cinderella" movie. As for Hudson, she received an epic surprise when Whitney H. was the one to present her with her Grammy Award. She said that meeting Whitney "almost overshadowed getting the Grammy."

Cissy Houston

Whitney's mom Cissy was a well-known gospel singer who raised her in the church. Houston was insulated from the cold streets of Newark, New Jersey with this spiritual background. Mom wasn't the only star in the family before Whit. Dionne Warwick is a cousin.

Bobbi Kristina Brown

Whitney's only child was her beloved 18-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina. Bobbi K is named after her dad, Bobby Brown. Bobbi Kris is understandably not taking the death of her mother well. She has already been hospitalized twice and remains under the care of her father and extended family.

Bobby Brown

Whitney's ex husband, Bobby of New Edition, has been accused by many for allegedly leading her down the path to drugs, destruction and ruin. She even told Oprah in an interview that Brown had spit on her during their tumultuous relationship. However, no one knows who introduced whom to drugs, if at all, besides the two of them.

Houston leaves behind an incredible musical legacy. She will surely be missed and mourned for a long time to come.
