Fox's mind-bending series "Fringe" might be over, but the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of the fifth and final season will satisfy fanatics in need of more alternate-universe fodder.
In this exclusive sneak peek at bonus footage from the DVDs, creator J. J. Abrams discusses the show's pilot and the sci-fi drama's origins: "'Fringe' is my favorite kind of show because it takes people that you really like, that you really care about, that you want to be with and work with and know, and it puts them into the scariest situations you've ever seen in your life. There are some scenes in this pilot that I think are straight out of my and our nightmares."

Fun fact: The show was called "The Lab" in Abrams's mind when he was conceiving it. After that, he and co-creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci tossed around a bunch of long-term ideas before focusing on what they knew could be established in the pilot and have a "clear potential for trajectory, knowing full well that, over the years, things would go in places we could never anticipate," Abrams said.
"Fringe: The Complete Fifth Season" is available on DVD and Blu-ray, and for download on Tuesday, May 7.
