Halloween is just around the corner, and with a slew of scary movies like "Scream 4" set to hit theaters this year, I've collected some of the greatest scary ghost movies to date.
"The Shining" - 1980
Even after 30 years since "The Shining" hit theaters, it is still one of the best all-time classic ghost movies that still scares the masses. It doesn't matter how many times you have seen "The Shining," Jack Nicholson's character still has the most scare factor of any horror-related ghost movies made to date.
"The Blair Witch Project" - 1999
This flick isn't so much a scary ghost movie as it is eerie due to its setting. It's still a good watch for those looking for something on Halloween to scare the bajeebers out of you. It will make you think twice about going out in the woods alone.
"The Sixth Sense" - 1999
Even watching "The Sixth Sense" when it's not Halloween time can give you a fright. Haley Joel Osment and Bruce Willis provide a one of a kind pair in this ghostly pairing.
"The Amityville Horror" - 1979
Whether you're into the book or the movie, either will put the scare factor into you as fast as "The Shining." I don't know of anyone who would stay, much less live in, a house where the walls bleed and talk to you.
"Poltergeist" - 1982
The first in the series of "Poltergeist" movies is the best. However, if you want a serial ghost watching night, pick up all the "Poltergeist" movies and get your boo screaming night on. Just don't fall asleep with the TV on.
"Stir of Echos" - 1999
I'm not sure I'd want to be Kevin Bacon in "Stir of Echos." I would feel as freaked as he started out feeling in this ghostly haunting of the brain.
"House on Haunted Hill" - 1999 Remake and the 1959 Original
While the 1999 version may be popular today, the original is the best of the two. What movie wouldn't be creepy with Vincent Price in it? For $1 million would you spend the night in a house haunted with ghosts?
"Rose Red" - 2002
"Rose Red" may seem familiar to those who have watched "House on Haunted Hill," but the scenario of the movie has its own plot and a great choice of characters. Rather than being paid $1 million to stay the night in a haunted house, the group has psychic powers which brings out the haunting of ghosts and mystical powers of "Rose Red."
"Ghost Ship" - 2002
You may rethink going on a cruise after watching "Ghost Ship." Even though the cruise liner reappeared in the opposite ocean it was lost in, moving a haunted house setting onto a ship can have its own scare factor.
