Time Mag's 100 Most Influential Fashion Icons
Time magazine has just released its list of the "100 Most Influential Fashion Icons" since 1923 (when Time was first published), and the list includes a number of celebs like the Olsen twins, Gisele Bundchen, Madonna and Lady Gaga.
Broken down into six categories -- Designers & Brands, Models, Muses, Photographers, Editors & Stylists and Style & Design -- the real surprise is Mary-Kate and Ashley, who made it under the Designers & Brands category and have the double honor of being the only people on this list under the age of 40.
Surprise! Olsens Sell Cheap Sunglasses
"Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen have managed to leverage child stardom into a legitimate career in fashion. Despite having no formal design education, the 25-year-old twins now preside over a veritable fashion empire and have transformed into style icons themselves," says Time.
"During a stint at New York University, the twins popularized the "boho chic" look with a layered mix of high- and low-end clothes, chunky jewelry and oversized sunglasses. Though it has sometimes been derided as "homeless chic," much of the fashion world jumped -- and remains -- on board. Whether it's through the contemporaries who emulate their personal style or more-mature women who favor their high-end labels, Ashley and Mary-Kate's influence cuts a wide swath."
For those of you upset with the Olsen twins' bogus boho style being included on the Time 100 list, it could be worse -- Jessica Simpson and her billion dollar empire were thankfully left off.
