The Prince George Effect Goes Global: The Toddler’s Preppy Style Inspires The Kardashian Kids Collection

North West may be a fashion force to be reckoned with and have a wardrobe busting with edgy Balmain blazers and fur coats, but her style could turn a tad more traditional if Prince George has anything to do with it.

Our very own prince is apparently considered to be one very chic little man by the Kardashian Klan and has inspired the famous family’s kids fashion collection. We bet that Kate and Wills are chuffed about that.

The two-year-old, who’s famous for his shorts and knitted cardi combos, may have been criticised this side of the pond for his ‘old fashioned’ wardrobe, but clearly the Kardashians are big fans of his preppy vibe.

“Prince George is the cutest,” Khloe Kardashian, 31, gushed to The Daily Telegraph’s Sydney Confidential. “He is so cute and preppy, but he still represents very well. He is very cute.”

Khloe explained that after creating adult clothes, shoes and lingeries, a kid’s collection was inevitable. “Doing a kids line was a natural progession,” said Khloe, who’s currently in Australia at the brand’s launch. “My nieces and nephews are so fashion forward, but we noticed there was a need in the market for boys.”

And as Kim and Kanye are expecting a baby boy in December, we bet they’re eager to make sure there’s as much choice for their son as possible. No doubt North and George will both have some serious competition in the fashion stakes.

While the Duchess of Cambridge has been slammed for dressing George in old-fashioned ensembles, childrenswear designer Rachel Riley – who created George’s outfit for Princess Charlotte’s christening – explains there’s a very good reason behind his retro attire.

“I look at old pictures of William and Harry as boys because the outfits are beautiful and a wonderful inspiration,” Riley, 52, told Hello magazine.

Diana was famous for dressing her sons in outfits that were appropriate for children, the designer added, and said that all of the clothes they wore were comfortable and classic – traits that Riley is replicating in George’s wardrobe. And clearly Riley’s doing something right. Like most of his outfits, George’s smock top and shorts that he wore to his baby sister’s christening sold out in hours of him appearing in it.

Maybe Kim Kardashian should take a leaf from Riley and Diana’s book and hold off on the lace tops, bulletproof vests and leather trousers – none of which can be very comfortable for a toddler. But somehow we don’t think we’ll be seeing North in a buttoned-up cardigan and pleated skirt anytime soon…
