Stephenie Meyer Sets The Record Straight

Twilight creator Stephenie Meyer gives few interviews, so it's easy to understand how Twilight-based rumors can gain so much traction. But with the cast and crew of Breaking Dawn: Part 2 hitting the promotional trail, the author finally took a moment to shut down two of the biggest Twilight rumors.

When asked about the special bonus scene Kellan Lutz has recently been talking up, Meyer told MTV, "That's actually incorrect. What they've been talking about will be in DVD extras I assume but it's not in the credits. There is no extra scene."

She went on to praise the picture's potentially controversial change to the book's ending. "There is an element we had to change to make it more visual. The changes give us a bigger story. It's something that me and [screenwriter] Melissa [Rosenberg] came up with over one long dinner in Vancouver. Once we had figured out how we wanted to do it everything really fell into place."

But perhaps most significantly, Stephenie addressed the possibility of extending Twilight's shelf-life with new books, or on-going cinematic adventures. "I've had no conversations to that effect at all," she tells MTV News. "I've seen a couple things about it but it's really not anything I've heard about personally."

When asked if she'd be open to the idea, Stephenie said, "I don't know. For me I have a very different agenda [than the studio]. It seems like that there should be some time, a resting period before that kind of thing comes up, but I know they have a different way of looking at things and I'm sure it will be discussed. I'm always open to conversation. Generally if it's going to be characters that I like, I'd like to read about them first. But that's because I'm a book nerd."
