All-Star Cast Assembles For 'Magnolias' Remake

Steel Magnolias is one of my all-time favorite movies.

I quote it more than I can count, still cry during Sally Field's "Whyyyyyyyy" monologue and think it's one of the most awesome assemblages of female actors in cinema history.

But Queen Latifah is taking a major risk and launching a remake of the seminal Southern film with a TV adaptation. Now, typically this would draw serious side-eye from me, but once you get a gander at the killer cast, I think you may find yourself feeling warm fuzzies for this new clique.

Latifah is taking the biggest risk, playing the emotional center of the film, M'Lynn (originally played by Sally Field) while Alfre Woodard will play the cantankerous Ouiser, Phylicia Rashad brings to life her best friend Clairee and soul singer Jill Scott slips into Truvy's salon chair. Elsewhere Pariah star Adepero Oduye will play Annelle & Phylicia's daughter Condola will play the fated Shelby.

Lifetime's Steel Magnolias will start production later this year.
