SNL Alum Abby Elliott Heading to How I Met Your Mother

Abby Elliott won't be unemployed for long.

Just two weeks after confirming she won't be returning to Saturday Night Live next season, Elliott has landed an arc on CBS' How I Met Your Mother, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The comedienne should have another outlet for her quirky sense of humor, as she is set to play Janeane, who is "the craziest girl the HIMYM gang has ever encountered," executive producer Craig Thomas tells the magazine. But not everyone is turned off by her antics.

"The strange, inexplicable phenomenon is: The crazier Janeane gets, the more attractive one of the gang finds her," Thomas said. "It doesn't end well."

Elliot's father, Chris Elliott (himself an SNL alum), also has a recurring guest role on How I Met Your Mother as Lily's (Alyson Hannigan) father, Mickey.

How I Met Your Mother kicks off its eighth season on Monday, Sept. 24 at 8/7c.
