Country singer Carrie Underwood has had an amazing career since leaving the "American Idol" stage behind. The star's beautiful voice has led to platinum albums and a multitude of fans. Recently, the newlywed took her first movie role in "Soul Surfer." In the film, Carrie plays the role of a youth pastor counseling a young teenage surfer and shark attack victim. (Carrie made her acting debut on the television program "How I Met Your Mother.") Is Carrie making the transition from singer to actress?

Not to worry! Although Carrie has said she is open to taking other "special" roles, she has no plans to leave her music career behind. The country cutie also has a realistic view of her acting role in "Sour Surfer" saying of her performance, "Am I going to win an Oscar? No. It was so much fun and the important thing is getting the story out there."

Many other singers have also jumped into movies. The following performers, along with many others, have all gotten the "acting bug:"

Jennifer Hudson: Fellow "AI" alum Jennifer Hudson went on to star in "Dreamgirls." The musical film proved the perfect vehicle to showcase J-Hud's immense talent. For her acting debut, she did win an Oscar!

Jessica Simpson: After starring in a reality series with then-husband Nick Lachey, Jessica got the acting itch and attempted to ignite a movie career. The beautiful, albeit ditzy, singer appeared in "Dukes of Hazzard," "Employee of the Month" and "Blonde Ambition." Unfortunately, Jessica's acting abilities were sub-par and even manager / dad Joe wasn't impressed.

Mariah Carey: Although Mariah received a major fail for her movie "Glitter," the rebounded star came back and gave a stellar performance in "Precious." Carey's acting career is on hold right now. The "We Belong Together" singer is currently expecting twins with husband Nick Cannon.

Justin Timberlake: The "SexyBack" singer has triumphantly made the switch to acting. Justin has appeared in many films including the monster hit "The Social Network." Although Timberlake hasn't put out any new music in awhile, fans of his work shouldn't worry. According to the talented former "Mickey Mouse Club" star, he "couldn't see his future without music in it."

Whitney Houston: Whitney's well-publicized troubles have made for a rocky career. The singer's amazing range and talent, however, were highlighted in "The Bodyguard." Houston's character, very comparable to her real-life persona, was the perfect role for the star.

Will Smith: It is easy to forget that Will Smith began his career as a rapper given his vast success in films. The "Welcome to Miami" hip-hop star managed to have a strong music and acting career. His daughter, Willow Smith, is following in his footsteps showcasing her musical talent with the single "Whip My Hair" and playing the starring role in an upcoming remake of "Annie."

Queen Latifah: Rapper turned actress Queen Latifah (Dana Elaine Owens) has starred in many films. For her role in "Chicago," the "Ladies First" artist was nominated for an Oscar. Currently, the CoverGirl model is lending her voice to "Ice Age: Continental Drift."
