Move over Kim Kardashian, Sinead O'Connor is stealing your title as the celebrity with the briefest marriage of 2011. Of course the singer didn't put her entire marriage from the walk down the aisle to the into divorce court on display for the entire world to see, so Kim still has some claim to matrimonial fame this holiday season.

The "Nothing Compares 2 U" singer has announced that she is ending her marriage to Barry Herridge after only 18 days of wedded bliss.

"Dear friends," O'Connor writes on her official website, "I had for reasons u will all understand, wished to keep this private but have been told today it is to be leaked in the next few days despite my best efforts. So I must now leak it myself so as the record is straight."

"Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed by the behaviour of certain people in my husband's life. And also by a bit of a wild ride i took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night as I don't drink," she added. "My husband was enormously wounded and very badly effected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage. It became apparent to me that if he were to stay with me he would be losing too much to bear. A woman wants to be a joy to her husband. So.. U love someone? Set them free."

The news of her decision to end her marriage after such a short period of time may come as a bit of a surprise, but is quickly becoming a trend within certain celebrity circles. Here's a look at some of the briefest celebrity marriages of recent years:

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries: If we didn't have to watch every agonizing moment of their split second marriage on the reality show, "Kourtney & Kim Take New York", we might have missed the fact that the reality princess and the basketball star were married this year. During their brief period of marital bliss, the couple took part in a televised wedding special, were featured on the cover of just about every celebrity magazine, and filmed a drama filled season of her reality show. The marriage may have only lasted 72 days, but this crazy couple are going to milk it for everything its worth!

Britney Spears and Jason Alexander : She may be basking in the glow of her recent engagement to fiance Jason Trawick this holiday season, but this will hardly be the first walk down the aisle for the pop star. Long before her doomed marriage to Kevin Federline, the singer tossed out her purity ring and tied the knot with her childhood friend, Jason Alexander , at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas back in 2004. Their marital bliss was short-lived as Britney filed for an annulment only 55 hours after the ceremony.

Mario Lopez and Ali Landry: He may seem like Mr. Nice Guy in front of the "Extra" TV cameras, but the former "Saved By the Bell" star has a reputation for being a bit of a cad off-screen. Everything seemed picture perfect for the adorable coupling of the actor and his beautiful fiance right up to their wedding day in 2004. Despite the fact that they had been together for more than six years, the groom decided to let his hair down for his Bachelor Party and did some things he would soon regret. The bride went on to file for divorce two weeks after walking down the aisle and the groom had to publicly admit to being unfaithful on the eve of his wedding.

Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra: Nobody really thought the relationship of basketball's bad boy and his model perfect wife would last after they tied the knot at the Little Chapel of Flowers in Las Vegas. It was the speed at which their relationship unwound that came as a surprise. Their union would last only nine days before the groom headed to court to ask his bride for an annulment.
