Shakira Performs While Pregnant: Other Stars that Did the Same

Shakira has given up "belly dancing" but she hasn't given up performing while pregnant!

Pregnancy isn't stopping Shakira from rocking it on the big stage. The blonde beauty was seen performing at the closing of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan, and the 35-year-old didn't shy away from showing off her bump. Of course, she took a pass on her trademark belly dancing. "In a few minutes it will be our baby's first time on stage and precisely at a football event! Magic Shak,"she tweeted before the event. The soccer setting was fitting since the baby's father is Gerard Pique, a star player on world power FC Barcelona. Shakira is not the only singer to continue to perform while expecting a child. Here are a few other notable singers that did the same.

The superstar welcomed daughter Blue Ivy Carter earlier this year, and she decided to take a break from performing while waiting for her new arrival. However, Beyoncé did perform a few shows before publicly revealing her pregnancy. She held a few small concerts in New York last August, and made her announcement shortly after the run ended. Not surprisingly, she found performing while pregnant to be a big change. "When you're pregnant, it's a little bit harder to breathe, so it was hard doing all the choreography and singing at the same time," she said in hindsight.

Jennifer Nettles

The Sugarland singer announced her pregnancy in June, but that didn't stop her from continuing to perform in the summer. Jennifer knew that she would be home soon after her announcement, and that made it easier to carry on her performances. "Becoming a mom is exciting -- and terrifying!" said the star in July. "At least I'll soon be off the road, decorating the nursery and nesting." She made good on that wish, and her first child will arrive in November.

Alicia Keys

Alicia was pregnant with her first child in 2010, and continued to hold concerts during that time. However, she did have one scary incident that should serve a cautionary tale to all pregnant performers. During a performance in New Orleans, the star fell down on the stage. Fortunately, she landed on her backside and everything worked out fine for herself and the baby. She continued the concert after the fall, but took a planned hiatus from touring shortly after that.
