Senators Rand Paul and Bob Menendez to Be CNN’s First ‘Crossfire’ Guests (Exclusive)

The newly re-vamped “Crossfire” premieres tonight on CNN, and the political panel show probably couldn’t have asked for a better lead-in: Wolf Blitzer’s interview with President Obama.

That should be the focus of the revamped show’s debut episode, as Senators Rand Paul and Bob Menendez will join hosts Newt Gingrich and Stephanie Cutter to discuss the day’s political news. Expect Obama’s interview with Blitzer (which is part of a day-long interview tour across several channels) to focus on Syria and whether or not the United States should intervene.

Paul is a Republican and Menendez is a Democrat. They also have different views on what the United States should do in Syria. Menendez, the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, supports using military force in the civil war-torn country. Paul has said he does not think the US intervention currently on the table would help the country or its people.

The “Crossfire” premiere was moved up a week in order to focus on the Syria crisis, leaving seven days’s less prep time for the hosts and staff (and set builders) but will allow the show an earlier entrance into the big political events and news its hosts and guests will debate.

“Crossfire” premieres at 6:30 ET.
