Robert De Niro

Happy birthday, Robert De Niro! The Oscar-winning actor behind iconic films like "Raging Bull," "Heat" and "Goodfellas" will celebrate his 69th birthday on Aug. 17. Don't assume he's slowing down his acting schedule to accommodate his age, though: The prolific actor has 12 films on tap for 2012 and beyond.

De Niro always seems at home when he's playing a gritty New York guy - and that's exactly who he plays in the just-released "Freelancers." De Niro plays Sarcone in the film about rogue NYPD cops. The film co-stars Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and Forest Whitaker.

50 Cent is definitely a fan of his veteran co-star.

"It's always amazing to watch him actually work in scenes," he told The Insider last week. "Even scenes that I wasn't in, I came and watched him work. He has the ability to do the same things over and over completely different, so each take you hear the same dialogue but it feels completely different."

"The Big Wedding

De Niro co-stars with Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace, Robin Williams and Katherine Heigl in this ensemble comedy. Keaton and De Niro play a divorced couple that plays married so they don't freak out the mother of their daughter's future husband. We're going to go out on a limb here and assume De Niro and Keaton's characters figure out they're really in love and decide to give their relationship another go. It's the classic romantic comedy formula.

"The Big Wedding" is due in theaters on Oct. 26.

De Niro is currently filming "Motel," a "taut crime thriller" that follows a hit man (played by John Cusack) hired by a mob boss (De Niro - who else?) to do a job. However, it's not exactly a cut-and-dry job.

Crispin Glover and Rebecca Da Costa are also set to star in the film, due out in theaters in 2013.

He Needs a Little Time Off, Too

The prolific actor might have 12 movies on tap, but he needs a little rest and relaxation, too. The actor - and his wife, singer Grace Hightower - were photographed vacationing in Tahiti along with John Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston.

Don't be mistaken, though: De Niro will never take a permanent vacation from acting.

"I might like to do things that are more retiring. Like sit in a place and just look at the view. Take a nice walk. Have a coffee. But not retire. As long as I'm enjoying what I'm doing, why retire?" he told Esquire in 2011.
