Ricky Martin has signed a deal to develop and star in a network television series, NBC's Universal Television announced Monday.

"Ricky is an iconic superstar who is as talented as he is popular," Bela Bajaria, executive vice president of Universal Television said in a statement. "Whether he's performing before sold-out concert crowds, or starring on Broadway, where he is currently playing to SRO in Evita, Ricky connects with his audience in a very palpable way — and we are thrilled that he will be adding TV star to his incredible resume."

Martin, who rose to fame as a member of Menudo before launching a multi-platinum solo career with hits including "Cup of Life" and "Livin' La Vida Loca," starred on General Hospital in the mid-'90s. He most recently appeared as a guest-star on Glee.
