As reports swirl about just who will be sitting next to Mariah Carey on American Idol, one name you won't see is Katy Perry.

The "California Gurls" singer turned down a $20 million offer to join the show for Season 12, TMZ reports. That's $2 million more than Carey's reported payday. However, TMZ claims that Perry's reservations about the job were not related to money. Rather, she didn't believe it was the right career move for her.

Report: Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban nearing American Idol deals

Perry first appeared on American Idol as a guest judge during the audition rounds in Season 9, after the departure of Paula Abdul. She also guest-judged on the seventh season of the U.K. version of The X Factor.

Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban are reportedly nearing deals to join American Idol, with Minaj set to take home $8 million and Urban set to earn somewhere between $3 and $4 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Are you sad Perry turned down American Idol? Do you think she would have made a good judge?
