Reese Witherspoon has lost some of her good girl luster following an arrest for disorderly conduct over the weekend.
The Oscar winner was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia, early on Friday morning after a police officer pulled her husband, Jim Toth, for driving outside his lane in traffic. Toth was arrested for DUI and failing to maintain a lane while driving. The actress was charged with disorderly conduct for refusing to cooperate with law enforcement.
According to the arrest report, the actress started behaving badly while waiting for the officer in her car. "Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe I was a real police officer. I told [her] to sit on her butt and be quiet."
The "Walk the Line" star apparently tried to leverage her star power to get out of the situation. The officer added, "Mrs. Witherspoon asked, 'Do you know my name?' I answered, 'No, I don't need to know your name.' I then added, 'right now'. [She stated], 'You're about to find out who I am.' I stated, 'I am not worried about you ma'am.'"
The events of the night didn't slow the star down as she quickly hopped on a plane and walked the red carpet at the New York City premiere of her new film, "Mud" on Saturday night.
Witherspoon has released the following statement about the incident, "Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behavior."
With her bout of bad behavior, the once squeaky clean mom-of-three joins a collection of stars who have shed their good girl image with some major bad behavior. Here are some of the good girls gone bad:
Britney Spears: She was the ultimate bubblegum princess of pop with her Disney roots and her public vow to remain a virgin until marriage. The pop tart lost her sparkle following a late night Vegas wedding to a childhood friend in 2004. The marriage to Jason Alexander lasted only 55 hours, but it had a lasting impact on Brit's good girl image. Rather than tip-toe into the world of bad girls, the star jumped right in with a quick marriage to backup dancer Kevin Federline. A couple of pregnancies, a stint in rehab and that infamous head shaving incident. Her bad girl days came to a screeching end when her dad, Jamie Spears, stepped in to take over her affairs in a court ordered conservatorship. These days the star is back on top with a new album set to hit stores this summer.
Miley Cyrus: She was the epitome of a good girl teen with her hit Disney show "Hannah Montana." With her sweet country twang and her girl next door looks, the star was money in the bank for the powerhouse network. At least she waited until her show was done before she shed her good girl image, along with a lot of her clothes for a series of controversial photos and some eyebrow-raising activity. These days she's working on the finishing touches to her fourth studio album and continuing to focus on building her career as an actress in more grown up roles.
Lindsay Lohan: It's hard to believe that Lindsay was once a Hollywood good girl. Once upon a time, she was a freckle-faced young girl starring in films like "Herbie: Fully Loaded" and "The Parent Trap." A series of arrests and bad behavior have left the star better known for her courtroom appearances rather than her on-screen performances. The actress tried in vain to relaunch her career in 2012 with an appearance in "Playboy" magazine in a Marilyn Monroe-inspired pictorial and a largely panned role in the film "Liz & Dick." These days she is facing down a court ordered stint in a lockdown rehab center and psychotherapy related to a reckless driving incident last year.
