Claire Danes snapped up an Emmy Award last night.

The Emmy Awards were broadcast by CBS last night and host Jimmy Kimmel presided as HBO won big for its dramas and comedies while Showtime's newcomer "Homeland" was the surprise big winner with six wins overall.

But the focus of most for the night was, of course, the winning speeches and a few were very memorable for what the performers said as they accepted their awards. The music was quick to cut them off last night, so there were not many rambling rhetorical discourses. A couple of the victors did fire out some notable quotes.

"Thank you ... for not killing me off," Aaron Paul said through tears as he took his Emmy for supporting actor in a drama series for AMC's "Breaking Bad" which he revealed was the plan for his character. He plays the partner of teaching co-star Giancarlo Esposito (also nominated in the category), a terminally ill turned meth manufacturer. He started his speech saying, "Oh my God, I truly didn't even attempt to prepare a speech. I can't believe I'm standing on this stage."

"Last but certainly not least," said Paul said he wanted to thank Lauren Parsekian, his "beautiful, inspiring fiancée. Thank you so much for looking at me the way that you do, you truly saved me."

"Homeland" star Damian Lewis got in a shot at the awards show genre in general, and his own nationality in specific, saying that he didn't expect to win.

''I'm one of those pesky Brits, I apologize,'' said Lewis, who plays an American turned possible terrorist in the Showtime drama. ''I don't really believe in judging art, but I thought I'd show up just in case. It turned out alright.''

Meanwhile, his pregnant "Homeland" co-star Clair Danes looked stunning in a yellow dress. Danes was last nominated as the star of 17 years ago "My So-Called Life" and after she thanked the cast of her show she called out to husband Hugh Dancy.

"My husband, my love, my life, my baby daddy," said Danes. "I couldn't do anything without you. I love you so much and I am so grateful."
