Paranormal Activity 4 debuted at the top of the box office but failed to live up to its predecessors.

The horror film grossed an estimated $30.2 million in its opening weekend, well below the record-breaking $52.6 million Paranormal Activity 3 took in last year, Box Office Mojo reports.

Box Office: Argo debuts strong but can't catch Taken 2

Argo held onto the second spot for a second week in a row, snatching $16.6 million. At No. 3, Hotel Transylvania grabbed $13.5 million. Taken 2 followed close on its heels, taking in $13.4 million to grab fourth.

Alex Cross debuted to $11.75 million — the worst opening ever for a Tyler Perry movie — to land in fifth place.

At No. 6, Sinister drew $9 million. Here Comes the Boom ranked seventh with $8.5 million.

Rounding out the top 10: Pitch Perfect (No. 8, $7 million), Frankenweenie (No. 9, $4.4 million), and Looper (No. 10, $4.2 million).
