Based on the book series from Diana Gabaldon, Outlander follows Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 and forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a young Scottish warrior.
Lewis will play Colum MacKenzie, Fraser's uncle and the ruling Laird of the clan. Colum suffers from a condition now known as Toulouse-Lautrec Syndrome, a degenerative disease that renders his legs immobile at times, and fills his days with great physical pain. McTavish will portray Dougal MacKenzie, the War Chieftain of Clan MacKenzie. Dougal is Colum's loyal right hand who is a skilled and experienced warrior that secretly supports the rebel cause against the British.
The pair join Heughan, Layer Cake actor Stephen Walters, Doctor Who vet Annette Badland and Games of Thrones alum Tobias Menzies, who will play both Frank Randall, Claire's 20th century husband, and Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall, Frank's dark and violent ancestor. The highly anticipated casting of Claire Randall has yet to be announced.
Battlestar Galactica's Moore will write and executive-produce Outlander with Jim Kohlberg. The 16-episode series, which will begin filming in Scotland this fall, is slated to premiere in 2014. Who do you think should play Claire?
