Hilary Swank on the Oscars Red Carpet.

On Sunday, February 24, we get to see our favorite stars walk the red carpet at The Oscars, a parade of glitz and glamor courtesy of the world's top designers. Will Oscar nominees like Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain take a chance on a gold gown that will hopefully have a matching accessory by the end of the night? They wouldn't be the first to bring that golden sartorial shine to the Academy Awards, and the list of predecessors is pretty impressive.

Oprah Winfrey: The Queen of TV created quite a buzz in 2012 with her sparkling gold Theia gown (shown here), that attractively hugged her curves and went perfectly with her Oscar statuette. That buzz included some surprise that it was the same dress Oprah had donned for the cover of her own O: The Oprah Magazine. Other than the fashion repeat, the talk show host also stirred up some controversy over her Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, considering her limited movie resume. We doubt she was concerned, however, as she strutted her glittery gold self down the Red Carpet with longtime partner Stedman Graham.

Hilary Swank: Back in 2000, the "Boys Don't Cry" Best Actress winner looked more than ready to nab her Oscar statuette in her gorgeous, gold silk Randolph Duke ballgown. Her uber-glam Barbie-worthy dress was enhanced with $250,000 in diamond jewelry. For arm candy, she had then-hubby Chad Lowe, whom she famously forgot to thank in her acceptance speech--but Lena Dunham took care of that over a decade later.

Nicole Kidman: In 1997, the statuesque actress turned heads and bucked trends with her gracefully elegant, embroidered and jeweled gold-green dress by John Galliano for Dior. Nicole was still a few years away from her own Oscar win, but was drawing plenty of attention next to her movie star husband Tom Cruise. The beautiful, sleek Galliano gown still graces many "Best Oscar Dresses" lists, and is considered one of Nicole's most iconic looks.

Meryl Streep: The critically-acclaimed actress fortuitously dressed to match her Oscar statuette in 2012, donning the sultry, draping layers of a shiny gold Lanvin gown. That added twist? The dress was made of an "eco-certified fabric made from recycled plastic bottles," and the seamstress worked for 72 hours straight to put the dress together. The dress received rave reviews and was the perfect complement to Meryl's Academy Award for "Iron Lady."

Lizzy Gardiner: You'd have to expect that the costume designer for "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" would show up to The Academy Awards in something unique. In 1995, Lizzy Gardiner accepted her Oscar in a dress made up of American Express gold cards. The AmEx company wouldn't let her use the gown in her movie, but were happy to donate the 250-plus invalid cards for her to wear to the Oscars. While the outfit made a lot of "Worst Dress" lists, Lizzy made some money from the credit card company and got compliments from Sharon Stone and Jennifer Tilly.

So, omg! readers, did these gowns make your Best or Worst lists? What are your other favorite gold Oscars gowns?
