Red has long been a color of power, wealth, and nabbing attention, which is why that illustrious fashion walkway leading to the Oscars is the red carpet. Will Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway, famous for her ruby red lips, don a dress to match this year? We're guessing at least one of our stunning leading ladies will make that bold scarlet statement, for as these six actresses have proven, the Oscars just aren't complete without a show-stopping red dress.

Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman: Two redheads, two similar dresses. Nicole wore it first, in 2007, a figure-flattering floor-length Balenciaga gown with an elegantly tied bow at the back of the neck. Though newly married to Keith Urban, who attended the ceremony, the 2003 Oscar winner ("The Hours") walked the red carpet with BFF Naomi Watts. Her stunning red dress was worthy of only the best, so of course Nicole presented an award with James Bond , a.k.a. Daniel Craig.

Emma got some criticism for her Giambattista Valli dress in 2012, with its more drapey fabric and definitely more prominent bow. We thought it suited her spirited, fun personality, and isn't imitation the highest form of flattery? The star of "The Help" got universally high marks for her funny awards presentation bit with Ben Stiller, however, once again proving her comedy chops.

Marcia Gay Harden: The "Pollack" star took home a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2001, and looked beautiful doing it in this deep red Randolph Duke gown with matching satin wrap. With a diamond necklace highlighting her decolletage, Marcia joked that her father had suggested a strapless design: "'You've got what it takes to hold (it) up!'"

Minnie Driver: In 1998, the talented and beautiful actress was nominated for her role in "Good Will Hunting," but the joy of the day was tempered by a recent painful breakup with the film's co-writer and star, Matt Damon. Minnie walked the runway in an understated red gown with faux fur stole, a Halston number that her stylist dubbed the "screw you" dress. Having to face Matt and his new girlfriend, Winona Ryder, the Oscar nominee more conservatively described her red gown as "beautiful armor." Whatever you called it, the fashion critics approved.

Halle Berry: The "Monster's Ball" actress knew in 2002 that winning the Best Actress Oscar would be an important moment in history, and she dressed to impress in a glorious burgundy Elie Saab gown with elegant embroidery and provocatively sheer top. Her emotional acceptance speech often makes the top Oscars moments lists, and through all the tears and elation, she looked stunning in that red dress.

Michelle Williams: Nominated in 2012 for her star turn in "My Week with Marilyn," the diminutive actress walked the red carpet in a lovely layered, pleated, peplum gown in a shade she decided to call "pomegranate." The soft red dress was striking with her ivory skin and Marilyn-blonde pixie haircut, which she has called a tribute to the late Heath Ledger, "the one straight man who has ever liked short hair."

So, omg! readers, who do you think will wear a red dress to this year's Oscars? Which have been your favorite gowns over the years?
