Metallic gowns are typically popular at awards shows, but this year at the 2013 Oscars they were few and far between. Only a couple actresses shimmied onto the red carpet in sparkly frocks. While some looked fabulous, others shouldn't have worn their picks at all. Who wore the best and worst metallic gowns at the Oscars?

Jessica Chastain

The stunner was in danger of her light copper-colored strapless Armani Prive gown looking bland, but one little detail saved the day - her red lipstick. That one bright pucker changed her entire look from "okay" to "wow." The soft side-swept waves helped pull together the old Hollywood glamor and her overall look was one of the best of the night. She was nominated in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, but lost out to Jennifer Lawrence.

Stacy Keibler

Many people didn't know who Keibler was before she started dating George Clooney, but she's certainly made a name for herself on the red carpet. At the 2013 Oscars, the former professional wrestler wore a gorgeous silver sequined Naeem Khan gown that had exquisite beading and a black strip highlighting her narrow waist. Her hair was pinned into a faux bob and a bracelet and dangling earrings completed the look.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

The 43-year-old looked lovely in a gold gilded Zuhair Murad gown that shimmered and shined as she walked down the red carpet, and that was precisely the problem. There was just way too much gold going on and it resulted in the gown being a bit tacky. Her hair was in soft waves and gold dangling earrings rounded out her ensemble.

Naomi Watts

It's so great when an actress goes for a bold choice on the red carpet and actually pulls it off. The blonde beauty wore a silver sequined Giorgio Armani Prive gown that had a cutout one-shoulder design and a slight train. Her hair was pulled into a slightly messy updo, and little dangling earrings and a silver bracelet complemented her gown. This is one of those times when big risks garners big rewards. She was nominated in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, but lost the Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence.

Renee Zellweger

Her whole look was a mess. The gold Carolina Herrera gown was boring and her hair looked like she just left the gym. It certainly wasn't one of her best appearances.

Who gets your vote for the best and worst metallic gowns at the 2013 Oscars?
