Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom

Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr named their son Flynn Christopher after Bloom's grandmother, Evelyn and Kerr's late first love, Christopher Middlebook, who died tragically in a car accident when Kerr and he were teenagers. Bloom and Kerr aren't the only celebrities to honor loved ones with their baby name choices.

Family Names

"Zookeeper" actor, Kevin James, welcomed a new son this April and named him Kannon Valentine James. Kannon is the name of a Buddhist deity and Valentine is the name of James' late grandfather and a staple in the James family. It is the middle name of the actor's father and older brother.

Kate Hudson's first son with rocker Chris Robinson was named Ryder Russell Robinson. Russell was used in honor of Hudson's stepfather, Kurt Russell.

David Duchovny and Tea Leoni named their son Kyd Miller Duchovny after English playwright Thomas Kyd and Duchovny's mother, whose maiden name is Miller.

Foo Fighter Dave Grohl named his second daughter, Harper Willow Grohl, after his Great Uncle Harper. Coincidentally, Victoria and David Beckham's new baby girl is also named Harper.

Me, Myself and I

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith also named their two children after loved ones'"themselves. Their son, Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, was named after Jada with a second middle name, Syre, which connotes his status as Hollywood royalty. On a side note, we should applaud the trend started where children are named after their mothers. Fathers usually get the credit while doing little of the work. Case in point, Donald Trump honoring himself by naming his eldest son Donald Jr.

Smith was given props with daughter Willow Camille Reign, which is a creative way to include the name Will without being too literal. Again, Reign is included to imply she is meant for greatness.

Off the Wall

In 1997, some thought Prince Michael was a pretentious choice for baby name but it seems people failed to notice it was Michael Jackson, the King of Pop and Cardinal of Excess, who was picking the baby names. Jackson's two sons are named Prince Michael I and Prince Michael II and his daughter is Paris Michael. Then there's the nickname Blanket for his second son.

Sir Bob Geldof, founder of Live Aid and an Irish singer and songwriter turned activist, named his first daughter with Paula Yates, Fifi Trixibelle. A Pomeranian may come to mind but it seems the name is in honor of Geldof's Aunt Fifi. His other two daughters are named Peaches and Little Pixie. How absolutely adorable.

Naming a child after one's self or a loved one doesn't seem so bad considering some of the other off-the-wall baby names celebrities have used. Apple, Honor and Maddox are mild, normal even, once you consider some other truly unfortunate name choices. There is Robert Rodriguez' son, Rocket; magician Penn Jillette's daughter, Moxie Crimefighter; TV actor Rob Morrow's daughter, Tu Morrow; "My Name is Earl" star Jason Lee's son, Pilot Inspektor and another Jackson original, Jermain Jackson's son, Jermajesty.
