Simon Cowell's former "American Idol" colleague Nigel Lythgoe has admitted he was surprised by his former co-worker's news - that Simon is expecting a baby with New York socialite Lauren Silverman.
"Were you stunned?" Access Hollywood Live's Kit Hoover asked of the news that Simon is having a baby with friend Andrew Silverman's wife, on Wednesday's show.
"Yes, I seriously was. I thought he was confirmed bachelor," Nigel said of his fellow Brit, who has made headlines for past relationships and trysts - including one with Carmen Electra.
"I don't think he thought this relationship would go anywhere," Nigel continued. "It was his best friend's wife. So, I think it came as a surprise to everyone really."
During the reality TV mogul's visit to Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday, he also shared his thoughts on Simon's impending fatherhood.
"He'll probably tell the kid off, every day," Nigel joked.
"'You're leaving the house!'" he said, pretending to be Simon talking to his future child.
Despite Nigel's good-natured ribbing of Simon, he did tell Billy Bush and Kit that he already has some gifts in mind for the Cowell baby.
"Nappies (British for diapers) just a little too high, little black t-shirts," Nigel suggested.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Simon spoke out about his upcoming parenthood last night, saying, "Things are changing in my life right now, for the better... I'm proud to be a dad."
Nigel's "So You Think You Can Dance" airs Tuesdays on Fox at 8/7 c.
