Nick Cannon has weighed in on the "American Idol" feud between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj

Nick Cannon has weighed in on Mariah Carey's "American Idol" feud with Nicki Minaj, and it's not surprising that the "America's Got Talent" judge has something to say about the singers' spat -- he has a history of becoming involved in his wife's beefs.

After Eminem attempted to drag out his lengthy feud with Mariah by calling her the c-word in his 2009 tune "Bagpipes from Baghdad," Nick responded with a lengthy blog post in which he referred to the rapper as "Slim Lamey," a "Peroxide drenched homophobic has-been," "Miss Marshall," and a "natural born racist in disguise."

Last year, the "America's Got Talent" host took on another foul-mouthed blonde. After Chelsea Handler criticized Mariah's fluctuating weight, Cannon took to Twitter to call the talk show host "bitter" and "miserable." Did Nick play his princess wife's white knight once again by going after Nicki Minaj for labeling Mariah Carey "bitter" and "insecure?" Not exactly.

Instead of attacking Nicki with a little name-calling, Nick Cannon focused his attention on the producers of "American Idol" -- he thinks that they've been playing up the judges' feud for ratings. According to The Wrap, he revealed Mariah's feelings about the drama during an appearance on the KTLA-TV morning show.

Cannon dished, "What's amazing is my wife foreseen all of this. She tried to tell the network, 'I don't think this is going to work. I'm afraid. I love the show, but you're kinda taking it in the wrong direction. This is going to turn into one of those reality shows.' She's like, 'I didn't sign up to be on 'Love & Hip Hop.'"

The "Real Housewives"-like drama that Mariah is referring to includes that infamous footage of Nicki cussing Mariah out; Mariah telling "The View" host Barbara Walters that she hired extra security because Nicki said that she wanted to shoot her; and Nicki's song that references the ugly feud titled, "Hell Yeah."

How will "American Idol" deal with all this drama? According to Deadline, Fox is "desperate" to bring back Jennifer Lopez next year. The network allegedly wanted her to swoop in and replace Mariah sooner, but J-Lo wasn't comfortable with that idea. However, Mariah's man seems to think that Nicki is the real problem. Nick said of the rapper joining the show, "No one thought it was a good idea then and no one thinks it is a good idea now." He also said that Mariah will only consider returning to the show if "they get it stable." This is just a nicer way of saying that "American Idol" needs to replace Nicki.

Meanwhile Fox News is reporting that Mariah threatened not to appear on the show this week even though she's premiering her new song "Beautiful" on Thursday night's results show. According to a source, she's "tired of trying to bite her tongue all the time," and she's not planning on returning next year if Nicki does. She's also been "under fire with the producers for not being critical enough of the contestants." So it sounds like there's a good chance that Mariah won't be back next year.

However, Nicki might not return, either -- according to a report by RadarOnline, "American Idol" is planning to help its struggling ratings by revamping the whole panel of judges next year. The show is allegedly hoping to hire Pink, Diddy, Selena Gomez, and Justin Bieber instead of simply replacing Mariah with Jennifer Lopez. The millions of Beliebers who would tune in to see their idol might give the show bit of a ratings a boost, but wouldn't it be disastrous if Selena and Justin broke up again?

So do you think that the sinking ship that is "American Idol" can be saved with a new judging panel, or is time for Fox to accept that it's going the way of the Titanic and that there's nothing that can be done about it?
