Naomi Watt's First Photos as Princess Diana: Who Else Looked Exactly like Their Character?

Yahoo Contributor Network

We're impressed! The first images of Naomi Watts as Princess Diana have emerged - and there's definitely a striking resemblance between the late mum of Prince William and Prince Harry and the Australian actress.

Watts will portray Diana during the last two years of her life in "Caught in Flight," including her affair with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Kahn. The film - scheduled for release next year - is terrifying for the actress.

"I'm looking forward to it, but am absolutely terrified," she said in February. "It's going to be a tough one. It's a big beast to take on. I just try to do my best."

"She's a very inspiring woman, and it's impressive how she changed the whole gearing of the traditions of the royal family and opened it up and brought a warmth to it," she added.

We're definitely impressed with her transformation, but she's not the only person to evolve for a role. Check out other celebrities that turned into spitting images of the people they played.

Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren won an Oscar for her role as Queen Elizabeth in 2006's "The Queen" - and she looked eerily similar to the monarch. The transformation was amazing, especially given that Mirren never met the Queen until after the film.

"I spoke to Buckingham Palace after I was invited and told them that I was filming in South Dakota and couldn't be in two places at once," Mirren told People of meeting the Queen and scheduling conflicts. "There was no snub and I would love to meet the Queen. It would be a great honor."

They eventually did meet and enjoyed tea and cucumber sandwiches for over an hour.

Charlize Theron

Flawless South African actress Charlize Theron was virtually unrecognizable as serial killer Aileen Wuornos. The actress gained 30 lbs. for the role and wore prosthetic teeth to play the murderous prostitute, though she had no idea that it was actually based on a real person.

"When I read the script, I didn't know that it was based on a real person," Theron told CBS in 2007. She eventually learned of the real life Wuornos and was fascinated with her sad story.

"This is a woman who, and when I say never experienced love in her life, I mean that."

The complete immersion into the character earned Theron an Oscar - a well deserved one, at that.

Hilary Swank

Actress Hilary Swank was more known for her role as "The Next Karate Kid" when she took the part of Teena Brandon in "Boys Don't Cry." The story revolved around Brandon's - a woman living as a man - and her murder in small town Nebraska. Swank also earned an Oscar for her role (see a pattern here?)

"This gave me an amazing experience to have the opportunity to have this meaty role, that I've been waiting for and wanting my whole career," Swank said of the gig.
