The MTV Awards Dissed ‘Breaking Dawn Part I’

It’s bad enough that the MTV Awards, which will be televised on June 3, didn’t nominate either Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson for Best Female or Male Performance, but they almost gave the cold shoulder entirely to Breaking Dawn Part I.

What is with the MTV Awards? Why have they almost completely ignored one of the biggest blockbusters loved by their audience in the past year?

Breaking Dawn Part I, has grossed $701,989,889 in the past year. That’s NOT small potatoes! And you can bet, that the Breaking Dawn audience is EXACTLY the same audience that will watch the MTV Movie Awards.

So why is Breaking Dawn Part I being slighted with only nominations for Movie of the Year and Best Kiss? Meanwhile The Hunger Games, has nominations for Movie of the Year, Best Male Performance for Josh Hutcherson, Best Female Performance for Jennifer Lawrence, Best Breakthrough Performance for Liam Hemsworth, Best Cast, Best On-Screen Transformation for Elizabeth Banks, Best Fight, and Best Kiss.

Yes, Hunger Games is a terrific film too, and it’s grossed $601 million worldwide so far, but we at Hollywoodlife would argue that the Breaking Dawn cast is as strong as Hunger Games, Robert Pattinson is as worthy as Josh Hutcherson in Hunger Games or Channing Tatum in The Vow. Kristen Stewart embodies Bella Swan, as well as Jennifer Lawrence becomes Katniss in Hunger Games and she was certainly just as, if not more memorable than Emma Stone, as Hannah in Crazy, Stupid, Love – all of whom received nominations.

Finally, Taylor Lautner has really been dissed, with his impressive fight against his fellow werewolves in Breaking Dawn? Why wasn’t he nominated in the Best Fight category?

What the MTV Awards are completely not realizing is the tremendous bond between the Twilight series films and their audience. It is unparalleled by any movie franchise, aside perhaps from Harry Potter ‘s. We could even argue that it’s stronger than the Harry Potter audience bond.

That’s because there is such intense fan interest in the off-screen lives of Twilight stars, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Peter Facineli, Ashley Greene and more. That interest out-bonds the interest in Danielle Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

That deep relationship between the Twilight fans and the films and the cast, counts enormously and the MTV Awards has ignored that critical fact.

Twilighters will NOT be happy about their favorite film being given short shrift! MTV should amend their nominations and add the cast to the Best Cast Category and Rob and Kristen to the Best Male and Female Performances categories!
