Michelle Pfeiffer's Five Best Roles

Michelle Pfeiffer's Five Best Roles

Michelle Pfeiffer was honored with the Cinema Icon Award at the CinemaCon awards ceremony in Las Vegas last night in celebration of her big screen career, which has spanned more than 30 years.

The 53 year old is my all-time favorite actress, so I was lightly horrified to hear one of my interns ask "the lady from New Years Eve?" as I gushed over how amazing she looked in photos from the ceremony. I mean, check her out and just try to tell me she's not as flawless now as she was in 1993.

But the fact that she's been reduced to being known for a supporting role in a pithy rom-com with younger generations breaks my Grease 2, LadyHawke, Dangerous Minds-loving heart.

That's why I decided to prescribe some mandatory movies to my blissfully ignorant intern -- and now you as well! Without pfurther adieu, I present Michelle Pfeiffer's Pfive Essential PFilms!

1. Scarface
Her breakout role as the coke-shoveling, gangster-bedding, hip-gyrating, tantrum-throwing Elvira Hancock came one year after 1982's megaflop (but now cult-classic) Grease 2.

2. The Witches of Eastwick
Pfeiffer was still an up-and-comer when this 1987 film was released, but her fragile yet fierce performance proved her more than worthy to share the screen with (and later eclipse) her uber-famous co-stars Jack Nicholson, Cher and Susan Sarandon.

3. Married To The Mob
After weighing down her resume with drama after drama after drama, Michelle mixed things up with this underrated comedy in which she says goodbye to her Carmela Soprano-esque life after the mob murders her husband (played by a young Alec Baldwin) and "Hello Gorgeous" to a world of personal potential.

4. Batman Returns
Obviously it's a must to experience Michelle's version of Catwoman before Christopher Nolan presents Anne Hathaway's new incarnation in The Dark Knight Rises so you can have some basis for comparison. But more importantly because her Selina Kyle one of the most complex characters ever to be featured in a superhero movie.

5. Up Close and Personal
This film is not everyone's cup of tea, but I absolutely devoured the drama involved with charting the rise of Sally (Tally) Atwater -- from giant sunglasses-wearing weathergirl to esteemed news anchor. I'll never look at a pair of red shoelaces the same.
