Mariah Carey Judging 'American Idol'! Fans, What Do You Want to See?

Yahoo Contributor Network

Mariah Carey has something to sing about!

Nick Cannon's personal diva is the newest judge on "American Idol." Carey is the first judge announced after both of the show's previous superstars, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, quit the show. Randy Jackson has yet to fully confirm his re-commitment to the musical broadcast.

Mariah joins the competition show at a critical time. When Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy first helmed the singing competition, they were pretty much the only game in town. If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, then the program should be incredibly flattered. "A.I." has spawned a new generation of blockbuster singing competitions, all with celebrity judges.

"American Idol's" competition shows include Cowell's "X Factor," "Duets," "The Voice" and more. Celeb judges were once a novelty but they are now necessary for the show to stand out from the pack. So, is Mariah a good fit for "Idol"? Clearly the show's longtime executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and FOX seem to think so. Fox Entertainment Chief Kevin Reilly spoke fondly of his new star explaining, "Not being the only game in town now, we need to keep things fresh." He also confirmed that the third judge will also be a star.

So what does Mariah bring to the table? Everything; after all the singer is known for her fashion and eccentric personality in addition to her voice. Ms. Carey needs no autotune, thank you, to enhance her talents. Trained by her opera-singing mother, Mariah has an octave range of five. She's in the Guinness Book of World Records for being one of the few in the world and is also one of the best-selling singers in history.

Three Things Fans Want To See

Mariah's Fabulosity

Mariah is known for being over the top. Her OTT ways translate throughout her lifestyle into wild style choices and red carpet attitude. People will undoubtedly look forward to Mariah's fashion moments. Watch for "What's Mariah wearing tonight?" to become a consistent trending topic on Twitter.

Mariah's Family

Mariah and her hubby Nick are parents to adorable twins known as Rock and Roe. The babies, Moroccan and Monroe, even have their own cheeky personal site called Dem Babies. Fans will be looking forward to an appearance from the twins and also Mr. Cannon.

Mariah's Dedication

Mariah's diva antics are said to be legendary. Only boldfaced names like her "American Idol" predecessor Jennifer Lopez and Madonna come close in reputation. Can we perhaps look forward to a few Abdul-like moments of on-air oddness? Fans will look for Carey to be dedicated to the competition and be there more to help the young singers than to promote herself.

So, what do you think of Mariah joining "Idol." Will you be watching her as a judge?
