Maksim Chmerkovskiy will not be on this upcoming season of "Dancing With the Stars." In a statement that he released this afternoon, he explained that he was interested other career opportunities.

"I just want to set the record straight to all of my amazing fans that I will unfortunately not be returning for this season of 'Dancing with the Stars.' I've been a pro dancer on the show for about seven years now and am eager to explore other opportunities that have been made possible because of 'Dancing with the Stars.' I'm going to take this time to dive into producing and acting, while fulfilling my sponsorship obligations."

Although Maks will not be on season 16, he may not be off the show for good. As he explained, "When time comes for the next season [17], we'll talk about it then."

Should Maks Leave The Show For Good?

On the one hand, I'll be a bit disappointed to not see him this season. Not only has Maks drawn in viewers with his sex appeal, but he also provided a much-needed check on the balance of power on the show. Whether or not you agree or disagree with him, he was always there to call out the judges for discrepancies in their critiques, and keep egos like Derek Hough and Mark Ballas in check.

On the other hand, it might be a wise move for Maks to move on. He seems to have become increasingly unhappy these past few seasons, and it has affected the way he's treated his partners (Hope Solo, anyone?)

While Maks' future on the show is uncertain, who else could we stand to lose? Who needs to go? Who's on the fence?

Need To Go

Derek Hough

The blond golden boy is undeniably talented and charismatic. However, he's gotten a big head in recent seasons. Last season, he blatantly went around telling everyone that he didn't care about following the judges' rules, and that he was only dancing for the fans. His whole attitude last season came across as a bit cavalier and entitled.

Viewers are also finally starting to see the favoritism that show has given him. Unlike long-suffering pros like Tony Dovolani, Derek has never gotten a bad partner. Perhaps the fan backlash was what contributed to Melissa Rycroft's win over Shawn Johnson.

Mark Ballas

I never really understood the hype about Mark. He doesn't have the sex appeal of Maks or Val Chmerkovskiy, the charisma of Derek, or the sweetness of Tony. And there was something a little creepy about Mark. He seems to hook up with every partner he's paired with.

Bruno Tonioli

This guy spends more time judging men's looks than actual dancing. His entire critiques consist of off-color metaphors, gesticulations, and salivating anytime a hot boy like William Levy or Gilles Marini wiggles his hips.

On The Fence

Peta Murgatroyd

Peta may have won her season with Donald Driver, but only because Karina Smirnoff was choreographing her routines. Last season, Peta and Gilles should have gone through in a cakewalk. Cheryl Burke would have easily led him to a Mirrorball trophy, but Peta allowed herself to be too intimidated by him, and as a result, she was unable to keep his growing ego in check.

I'd say give Peta one more chance (since she's relatively new). If she doesn't bring her A-game, then give her the ax.

Karina Smirnoff

I'm 50/50 on this one. On the one hand, I'm starting to get a worn-out jaded vibe from Karina. And I'm getting tired of that permanent scowl she seems to have on her face.

On the other hand, with Maks leaving, who will provide the show with some much-needed entertainment value? Her meltdowns and drama-queen antics alone may be worth keeping on the show.

Are you looking forward to the next season of "Dancing With the Stars"? Should Maks leave the show for good? Who else needs to go?
