You Should Love Lena Dunham - Here's 3 Reasons Why

Yahoo Contributor Network

Lena Dunham is the kind of talent that sneaks up on the world and takes it by surprise. She's 26 years old and starring in "Girls," a show she created for HBO with the help of executive producer Judd Apatow. The show is a lot like "Sex In the City" in that it follows the lives of a group of female friends living their lives in New York City. But what sets "Girls" so far apart from its predecessor are two things: First, the age of the women in Dunham's show are about ten years younger than Carrie and company. Secondly, and most importantly, Dunham's brilliance voice as a writer and her uncannily real acting performance.

With the kind of talent that Lena has, we think she's got a serious future in showbiz. When a writer is capable of capturing a slice of life and translating it into big laughs, it's a rare occasion. The fact that Dunham can also act so well makes her a true force to be reckoned with. Here now are three more reasons you should get familiar with Lena and her work.

HBO Loves Obviously Loves Her - There probably is no bigger compliment to a brand new show than being picked up by its network for a second season. So imagine the kind of love that HBO must have for Dunham and her show if after just three episodes of the debut season, they renewed it for a follow-up. Clearly HBO is hoping to build its brand around her, and that means more exposure, perhaps a bigger budget, and a chance for Lena to flesh out her show's characters even further.

She's Already Picked Up An Award Or Two - The reason Apatow wanted to work with Dunham no doubt was the buzz her first indie film, "Tiny Furniture," got in the business. Another tale of a young 20-something trying to find her place in the world, Dunham's screenplay won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay in 2010. The film was also nominated for the Best First Feature prize that year as well.

She's Amazing on Twitter - It may be because she's of the generation that really first picked up on what Twitter's all about, but Lena is a great celebrity to follow on the micro-blogging site. Her tweets make it clear that even when limited to 140 characters or less, she can still be witty, charming and fun. For example, this tweet, "@lenadunham: Great news guys- I know how worried you were, but my corded phone DOES in fact stretch all the way to the toilet."
