Seth Rogen will play the infamous Dirty Randy on The League's Season 3 premiere, producers revealed Saturday at the Television Critics Association fall TV previews.

Creators and executive producers Jackie and Jeff Schaffer promised fans last year that they would reveal the oft-mentioned, but never-seen friend of Rafic(Jason Mantzoukas)if the comedy was picked up for a third season.

The League creators talk Season 3

"As the legend of Dirty Randy grew among our fans — is that Dirty Randy? Is that a shot of Dirty Randy? — we realized we really have to step up here," Jeff Schaffer told TVGuide.com Saturday. "We started talking about who the funniest people we know who aren't on the show already, and [Rogen] was at the top of the list."

Although he and Rogen have never worked together, Schaffer says he knows the Knocked Up actor through mutual friends. It didn't hurt that Rogen is friends with cast members, including Paul Scheer and Nick Kroll. "He's obviously brilliantly funny and ... he's an amazing improviser," Schaffer said. "So we said, 'Would you ever consider doing something like this?' He was sweet enough and kind enough to go, 'I love those guys. Let's see if it can work.'"

As a fan of the show, Rogen is also well aware of the hype surrounding the character. "He's seen the shows, so he's going in [with] eyes wide open," Schaffer said. "He knows it's going to be a wild ride."

Asked whether Dirty Randy would make a return appearance later in the season, Schaffer said there are "always, always, always opportunities" for Rogen to return.

Season 3 of The League premieres on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 10:30/9:30 on FX.
