Lady Gaga & Other Stars Step Up Storm Donations

Lady Gaga 'Doing Unbelievable' After Hip Surgery

Pop superstar Lady Gaga has pledged $1 million to relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy and other celebrities are stepping up their contributions as victims keep striving to recover from the devastating storm.

Lady Gaga announced her donation Wednesday on Twitter, explaining that it's one way she can give back to her native New York. "If it wasn't for NYC: the Lower East Side, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today," she said.

"Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia, and my sister Natali; with our deepest gratitude New York for raising us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours," Gaga added.

Earlier this week ABC held a "Day of Giving" fundraiser for victims of Sandy that raised more than $8 million, with newswoman Barbara Walters donating $250,000 to the American Red Cross and Good Morning America co-anchor George Stephanopoulos pledging $50,000. NBC held a star-studded telethon on Friday night that raised about $23 million for the cause.
