Lady Gaga has gained a little weight and it's no big deal!
The "Born This Way" singer admits she has put on a bit of weight in recent months, but feels she is being unfairly criticized for her weight challenges. She has even gone so far as to start a "Body Revolution" channel on her Little Monsters website to help folks embrace their bodies and focus on their own inner beauty.
When talking to the website Stylist UK about the movement, she pointed out another curvy singer who doesn't receive much grief about her weight -- British soul singer Adele.
"I was acutely aware of some photos on the internet -- my mom called me and was like, 'Did you gain weight?' -- everybody was telling me about it, and I didn't really care," she says. "I thought, well I don't really care if they think I'm fat, because, quite honestly, I did gain about 30 pounds."
She adds, "Adele is bigger than me -- how come nobody says anything about it? She's so wonderful and I think her confidence is something I have to match. She has set the bar very high for a lot of women. I need to be a confident woman and just say politically active things when I can that are helpful to young people. We should all make an effort to be nice to one another all the time."
With her admission of her weight challenges, the star joins a growing collection of stars who have had to battle the bulge in the public eye. Which other stars have had their own weight challenges:
Jessica Simpson: The new mom to baby Maxwell has admitted to packing on the pounds during her pregnancy. To help her lose the weight in a healthy way, the singer turned to Weight Watchers to help her shed the weight and keep it off. "I think anybody who's gone through a pregnancy, after they have the baby, it's like, 'I need to do something about this," she told People. "For me, I really want to do something that is a lifestyle, because in the past I've been known to yo-yo diet." She recently showed off the results of her efforts in a family Halloween photo.
Jennifer Hudson: Today she may be the poster girl for the Weight Watchers brand, but once upon a time she was the curvy R&B singer on the third season of "American Idol." Fast forward a few years and pack on a few awards including an Oscar for her role in "Dreamgirls," and the star was finally ready to shed the weight. It was after a family tragedy involving the murders of her mother, brother and young nephew that the star decided to face her weight challenges head on. To date, she has shed more than eighty pounds and has earned the title of the face of the Weight Watchers brand.
Mariah Carey: The new "American Idol" judge faced some very challenging health problems during her pregnancy in 2011 that caused her to put on a significant amount of weight. To help her shed the weight, the singer turned to the Jenny Craig weight loss system. "I put on around 70 pounds," the singer told Shape magazine. "But if you look at photos of me when I was pregnant, you'd say, 'Wow she gained 9,000 pounds! A lot of it was water because I pretty much had head-to-toe edema, which is very painful. Luckily, all the swelling went away fairly quickly after the babies were born. Then I had about 30 more pounds to drop. I have such empathy for people who need to lose a lot of weight, because I know what they're going through. I remember thinking at the time, 'I'll never look or feel the same again.'"
