Kristin Cavallari

Former "The Hills" star Kristin Cavallari has called off her engagement to fiance Jay Cutler, according to Access Hollywood.

The break-up comes as a huge surprise: Cavallari and Cutler recently put together a bridal registry and Cavallari was happy about moving to Chicago, where Cutler plays for the Chicago Bears NFL team.

"I love Chicago," the blonde said of her seasonal home. "My mom is there -- and that side of my family -- so, I get to spend time with my mom who I don't get to see that often. But it's been great. I love the city and during the football season I was there a lot. Now, we're both out here."

So, what went wrong? Cavallari's rep isn't commenting, though a source told SheKnows that Cavallari recently hired a wedding planner in Chicago and gushed about her wedding to friends as late as last week.

Cavallari can take comfort that she's not the first -- or the last -- celebrity to stop short of the altar.

Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris

Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner was ready to settle down with his 25-year-old fiance, Crystal Harris in June. However, the blond Harris had different plans and abruptly called it off.

"The wedding is off. Crystal has had a change of heart," the 84-year-old Hef tweeted on June 14.

Harris later released a statement with her side of the story.

"After much deep reflection and thought I have decided to end my engagement with Hef," she said in her statement. "I have the utmost respect for Hef and wish him the best going forward. I hope the media will give each of us the privacy we deserve during this time."

Hefner's moved on, though -- he's now dating Harris' friend, Shera Bechard.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton has called off more engagements than most people have shoes. She was first engaged to actor Jason Shaw from 2002 to 2003 before ending it. Then, she got engaged to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis for six months in 2005.

Hilton also said she intended to marry several of her other boyfriends, including Good Charlotte's Benji Madden, Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and Doug Reinhardt.

Of course, she broke up with all of them.

Most recently, Hilton was spotted picking out engagement rings with boyfriend Cy Waits in New York City.

"They shopped for engagement rings," a source told People. "They were really cute together. Paris was making comments about the rings and joking that her ring has to be at least 24 carats."

Why? We're sure she wanted to beat Kim Kardashian's huge engagement ring. Guess how that ended, though -- did she get the engagement ring? No! That's right: they broke up in June.

Will she ever find her true love? Stay tuned.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck met on the set for their bomb of a film, "Gigli" and later became "Bennifer" when they got engaged in 2003. They broke off their engagement in 2004 and Affleck went on to marry Jennifer Garner.

Of course, J. Lo went on to marry -- and is now divorcing -- singer Marc Anthony. However, Lopez and Affleck might be talking again, thanks to her mother, Guadalupe Lopez

"Guadalupe reached out to Ben over email. She wanted advice for Jennifer," a source told Us Weekly.

"She always liked and trusted him. [Ben] replied back on email, wished her well and offered what he could," the source added.

Yeah, he's too happy with his wife and adorable daughters to risk another relationship with Lopez.
