Kirk Cameron Slammed for Calling Homosexuality "Unnatural" in CNN Interview

Former Growing Pains star turned Christian activist Kirk Cameron has found himself in hot water with gay rights groups after calling homosexuality "unnatural" and declaring same-sex marriages "detrimental" in a new CNN interview.

Speaking to Piers Morgan Friday in an interview about social issues, Cameron, 41, had no problem making his anti-gay stance known. "I think that it's…it's…it's unnatural. I think that it's…it's detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization," the born-again Christian actor told Morgan of his opinion on homosexuality.

When asked by Morgan what he'd say if one of his six children were to come out, Cameron was not accepting. "I wouldn't say 'That's great, son, as long as you're happy.' I'm going to say, There are all sorts of issues we need to wrestle through in our life. Just because you feel one way doesn't mean we should act on everything we feel," the actor said.

Disagreeing with Cameron's stance, the CNN newsman later told TMZ the actor was "brave" for voicing his opinions.

"It's -- many would argue -- an antiquated view about many of these issues," Morgan reasoned to TMZ. "I felt that he was honest to what he believed. And I don't think he was expecting the kind of furor that it's created."

Gay rights group GLAAD also found Cameron's statements antiquated, calling the actor "more dated than his 1980s TV character."

"Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation," Herndon Graddick, the Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD told Us Weekly in a statement.
