Ever look at Kim Kardashian and wonder how she got to be so...the way she is?
The 72-day bride, who reportedly made $17 million dollars on her insane (and brief) wedding, has flown to Australia as the media frenzy surrounding her divorce intensifies. While Kim's out of the spotlight--and the country--mom and manager Kris Jenner is wasting no time in capitalizing on the publicity and promoting her new book, Kris Jenner...And All Things Kardashian. Looks like maybe the apple doesn't fall so far from the tree after all.
According to reports, Jenner is scheduled to appear on the "Today" show this week, where she's expected to peddle her book and discuss Kim's divorce from NBA star Kris Humphries. Whether scheduled as part of an elaborate wedding hoax or merely a case of fortuitous timing, her book will undoubtedly benefit from the media attention surrounding her daughter's abbreviated marriage.
This isn't the first time Kris has allegedly used her daughter as a financial stepping stone.
In February 2007, Kim's now-infamous sex tape with then-boyfriend Ray-J was "leaked" to the media. Seven months later, the first episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" aired on television. While Jenner insists that the show was in the works long before the sex tape appeared, most people with a brain (or a calendar) credit Kim's peep show for launching the family's reality show.
According to Kim, her momager was also behind her agreement to pose nude for Playboy. During a Harper's Bazaar photo shoot (where, ironically, Kim got naked once again), she said "I'm sorry I did Playboy. I was uncomfortable." According to Kim, Jenner told her to "go for it" and said "They might never ask you again. Our show isn't on the air yet. No one knows who you are. Do it and you'll have these beautiful pictures to look at when you're my age." Frankly, we find that disgusting on many different levels, starting with the part where the words "mom" and "Playboy" were uttered in the same sentence.
While Kris Jenner may be the world's worst momager ever, it's not the gig has a great track record.
At one point, Lindsay Lohan's mom Dina was both parent and manager to her troubled daughter; clearly, neither part of her job went particularly well. Years ago, Teri Shields drew criticism for capitalizing on the sexuality of her daughter, Brooke Shields, who appeared in sensual advertising for Calvin Klein and was cast as a child prostitute while underage. Also, let us not forget the complete and total trainwreck Courtney Stodden, whose momager, Krista, allowed her 16-year-old little girl to marry 51-year-old Doug Hutchinson.
Now, don't you feel mature and well-adjusted in comparison?
