Whitney Houston's untimely death before the Grammy Awards turned Hollywood into a sad and grim place this weekend. The musical megastar was at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for her mentor Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy bash. Her aunt Mary Jones laid out her gown for the affair as Whitney went to take an olive oil induced bath. Unfortunately, she never made it out of the bathtub alive.
For the recording industry to lose one of its brightest stars on the weekend that commemorates the best and brightest in music was certainly tragic. The Davis party and subsequent Grammy Awards become somewhat of a wake for Houston. Fans were nonetheless a bit troubled at the description of the pre-Grammy party taking place in the same hotel where Houston's dead body still lay.
A photo of Kim Kardashian partying the night away with Britney Spears emerged. Other party goers included Serena Williams, Alicia Keys and husband Swizz Beatz, Sharon Osbourne and Chaka Khan however, have been critical of the decision for Davis to hold the party with the news of Houston's death just announced. The cohost of the talk explained, "I watched the Grammys last night. I didn't go to the Clive Davis party."
The outspoken Mrs. Osbourne went on to say, "I do not know how people could have gone to the party knowing that Whitney was still in that building dead." Khan also questioned the decision to have the Beverly Hilton bash on the night of Whitney's death. The "I'm Every Woman" singer stated, "I don't know what could motivate a person to have a party in the building where the person, whose life he had influenced so enormously, and whose life had been affected by hers...I don't understand how that party went on."
