Kelly Preston Talks About Losing Her Son: Plus Other Stars Who Have Lost a Child

Actress Kelly Preston and her husband John Travolta lived through every parent's worst fear when their son Jett, 16, passed away during a family vacation in The Bahamas in 2009. Their suffering got worse following his death when the couple were victims of a multi-million dollar extortion plot surrounding the circumstances of his passing. Through it all, the actress held her head high and weathered the storm.

"I've had enormous loss," the actress tells Lifetime's "The Coversation with Amanda de Cadenet" of Jett's death following a seizure. "Nobody should have to lose a child. It's unfathomable. But I'm here to say that you can get through it. You can live again. You can want to live again."

With her candor about her loss, Kelly gives us a glimpse inside her decision to heal and move forward with life surrounded by the support of her family and friends.

"People were so beautiful - so, so extraordinary from all over the world," she added. "Everybody grieves in their own way. I felt at times like I was drowning. It felt like a sea of wet blankets. And then I just peeled them off, layer by layer, so that I can no say, 'I want to live. I love my life. My life is beautiful and amazing."

Eric Clapton: The singer was already a music powerhouse when he tragically lost his 4-year-old son, Conor. The child died after falling from a 53rd floor window in New York City. Rather than turn his grief inward, the singer penned the song "Tears in Heaven" as a tribute to his child. The song would go on to win six Grammy Awards for the single.

Bill Cosby: The funnyman introduced us to his children via his comedy routines in the 1970s and 1980s. The world would grieve with the star when his son Ennis, 28, was tragically shot while changing a flat tire in Los Angeles in 1997. His dad went on to pay tribute to his child withe the establishment of the Hello, Friend / Ennis William Cosby Foundation in 1997 which assists educating children with learning disabilities.

Mike Tyson: He may have been a force in the boxing ring, but the heavyweight suffered a life changing loss when his daughter Exodus, 4, passed away in a tragic accident in 2009. The little girl was found tangled in a dangling cord from a treadmill by her older brother. She was revived by CPR and passed away two days later from her injuries.
