Katie Couric finds love with a younger man … again

Katie Couric is having a busy summer preparing for her new syndicated talk show, called “Katie,” which premieres in less than six weeks and will air in nearly every U.S. market, but it sounds like she’s still finding time for her personal life.

Over the weekend, Couric, 55, attended the Ellen Hermanson Breast Cancer Benefit, which took place at a private home in the Hamptons, with her reported new beau, 49-year-old John Molner, head of mergers and acquisitions at an investment bank. Though rumors have been swirling for the last couple of months that the former “Today” show co-anchor had been dating someone, it’s the first time the two have appeared publicly together. Witnesses told the New York Post that Couric looked “in love” and that Molner held her hand and put his arm around her to make sure she didn’t slip in some post-rainstorm mud on the way in. “She was careful not to be photographed with him, but they were clearly together,” one guest told the newspaper. “They looked good together and other guests remarked that he seemed a more age-appropriate match.”

The “age-appropriate” comment is in reference to Couric’s most recent long-term relationship, with Brooks Perlin, a former hedge fund manager and current CFO of a green construction materials firm who is 17 years her junior. The two dated for five years beginning in 2006, breaking up late last year, when Couric was 54 and he was 37.

Before Perlin, she briefly dated professional trumpet player Chris Bottie (who happened to be five years younger than Couric). She was previously married to legal analyst Jay Monahan, who died of colon cancer at the age of 42 in 1998. The couple had been married for nine years at the time of his death and had two daughters together, Ellie, now 21, and Carrie, now 16.

“It’s an exclusive club that no one wants to be a part of,” Couric told the New York Post in 2010 of losing a spouse. “I was just enjoying my life, in a very happy marriage with healthy children. I felt so lucky. When Jay got sick, it was a very surreal experience.”
