Kate Gosselin gets fired from coupon blogging gig

How is Kate Gosselin going to pay for her $7,000 tab at the hair salon now?

Just a few years ago, the reality TV star was making money hand over fist by simply allowing a camera crew to film her day-to-day life, including nasty spats with her now-ex-husband Jon Gosselin. Well, finding professional success after her TLC series was canceled in September 2011 hasn’t been easy. Less than a year after being hired as a blogger for the website CouponCabin, the mom of eight was unceremoniously fired this week.

“A series of recent events have made it clear to me that Kate Gosselin and her contributions do not align with the authenticity which we set out to build almost a decade ago, and that Ms. Gosselin is simply not a good fit with the wonderful team and culture at CouponCabin,” founder and CEO Scott Kluth wrote in a post on the website. “It’s with this that I am writing to inform you of our decision to discontinue Ms. Gosselin’s feature blog. ... We wish Kate, her family, and her support staff all the best.”

Beyond that explanation, Kluth did not give specific details as to why Kate was given the axe. However, if you’ve seen the 37-year-old on TLC’s "Jon & Kate Plus 8" or “Kate Plus 8,” you know that she has a bit of an abrasive side. And it’s noteworthy that her termination comes shortly after Jon’s friend, Robert Hoffman, self-published the book Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World. The unauthorized tell-all – which contains allegations of child abuse and animal abuse (Kate and Jon had two German shepherds), and extensive details about her personal finances – was removed from Amazon.com when Kate’s lawyers claimed Hoffman inappropriately obtained the confidential information used in the book. It is now the subject of an ongoing legal dispute.

Last year when Kate, a former nurse, talked about transitioning back into life as a real mom after being a reality TV one since 2005, she told People magazine she was “freaking out … big time.” Noting that she and her children – twins Cara and Mady, and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah, and Joel – "weren't ready" to leave the show, Kate – who memorably debuted a $7,000 hairstyle back in 2010, said, "Nobody was. I've never quit a job in my life without having something else lined up. I don't know what's next." She added, "I told them I will work my fingers to the bone to make sure that they can stay here and go to their school. There are no guarantees in life for anyone, but they know that I'm giving it my best shot."

Though Kate hasn’t commented directly on her firing from CouponCabin, she took to Twitter on Wednesday to put a positive spin on things, writing, “I'm alive! I've been super busy working away! I'm having lots of fun and can't wait to share! No worries … we will chat soon!”

We’re not sure what is next for Kate, but if we had to wager a guess we’d say she won’t be slipping back into her scrubs – or any other 9-to-5 gig – anytime soon.
