So far, 2013 hasn't exactly been a banner year for Justin Bieber. The teen pop star won the first-ever Milestone Award at this year's Billboard Music Awards, but a damper was put on his big moment when some audience members booed him. In addition, the "Beauty and the Beat" singer has received a bevy of bad press this year -- and it's only May.

At Sunday's Billboard Music Awards, the crowd began booing when Bieber was presented with the Milestone Award. After a long pause, the clearly surprised superstar told the crowd, "I'm 19 years old. I think I'm doing a pretty good job. Basically from my heart I really just want to say it should really be about the music. It should be about the craft that I'm making. This is not a gimmick, and I'm an artist, and I should be taken seriously and all this other bull should not be spoken of."

According to Ace Showbiz, the show's host, comedian Tracy Morgan, reportedly told the crowd, "Don't be booin' nobody, this ain't 'Showtime at the Apollo.'"

Of course, the Billboard Awards isn't Bieber's first bad moment of the year.

The year kicked off with the news that a California tabloid photographer was hit by a car and killed while trying to take photos of Bieber's white Ferrari. While Justin wasn't driving the car at the time -- his pal Lil Twist was -- the January 1 incident started the year off on the wrong foot for the singer.

In March, it was more bad press when Bieber was accused of assaulting a neighbor and driving recklessly in his Calabasas, California, neighborhood. (He reportedly spit at his irate neighbor.) He was also slammed for showing up two hours late for a concert at London's O2 arena. At another London concert, he fainted after experiencing breathing issues while on stage, and was later spotted wearing a bizarre gas mask around the city. He also got into an altercation with a London photographer.

The Austrian Times reported that Bieber was also banned from a Vienna nightclub in March, after his bodyguards smashed cameras and cell phones of fans in the club. And according to the Associated Press, when the singer showed up at the Munich airport that month with a capuchin monkey in tow, he had to leave it with authorities because he didn't have the proper documentation to bring the animal through customs.

In April, TMZ reported that JB's tour bus was raided by Swedish police, and marijuana was found on board. Earlier in the year -- in fact, just one day after the paparazzo was killed-- TMZ posted pics of what appeared to be Justin partying and smoking pot with friends.

He was also blasted by haters after an April visit to the Anne Frank house. After Justin stopped there while on tour in Amsterdam, the organization posted the pop star's guestbook message on their Facebook page. The 19-year-old reportedly wrote, "Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."

So what does Justin have to say for himself after this bad year? He recently told Us Weekly, "I'm young and I make mistakes. That's part of growing up. I mess up sometimes. It's part of growing up."

But he also added, "I'm young and I want to have fun. I don't think there is anything wrong with that."
