Joe Manganiello has no problem with revealing his bottom on "True Blood."

The actor, who plays werewolf Alcide Herveaux in the popular HBO series, which is about to enter its fifth season this summer, said stripping down to play the shape shifting creature is all part of the call of duty.

"As far as the butt cheeks stuff goes... it just makes sense," Joe told Out magazine, which features the star on its latest cover.

"It's not gratuitous; it's realistic," Joe continued. "If you're a werewolf and you transform, you lose everything and there are your butt cheeks. The show is a deconstruction of supernatural creatures. It's not like other werewolf projects, where you magically reappear with tiny jean shorts on."

The physically fit star, who was a high school super athlete, lettering in three sports, said he loves playing Alcide, because it fits in with his many interests.

"It utilizes each part of my eclectic personality. There's the kid who loves monsters, and I can be athletic, but I also love history and I can research wolves and Southern dialects," Joe said. "The dialogue is so rich -- it's Tennessee Williams with Chekhovian layers -- and that fulfills my bookwormy playwright side. I'm so fortunate. Plus, I get to have a beard all the time."

"True Blood" returns to HBO this summer. Joe's film "Magic Mike," with Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer and "White Collar's" Matt Bomer will be released on June 29.
