Jessica Simpson’s dad Joe arrested for DUI

The same night that Jessica Simpson tweeted that she has substituted water for alcohol now that she’s a mom, her father, Joe, proved he’s not following the same plan. The minister-turned-talent manager was pulled over at 10 p.m. last Saturday in Sherman Oaks, California, and police soon suspected he had been drinking, reports TMZ. Although it’s not yet clear if he submitted to a Breathalyzer test, the 54-year-old was arrested at the scene and brought to jail.

Simpson spent the night behind bars for almost 12 hours before he eventually paid his $5,000 bail. No criminal charges have been filed yet. Since it’s his first offense, it’s not likely that Simpson will have to serve any further jail time.

This is not the first time the Simpson family has dealt with a DUI. Former “Prison Break” actor Lane Garrison, who was mentored by Joe Simpson and grew up with the famous family in Texas, killed a 17-year-old boy who was riding in his car when he crashed his vehicle in 2006 following a night of heavy drinking (two 15-year-old girls in the car were also injured). After serving 19 months in prison, Garrison was welcomed home with a big party thrown in his honor … at the mansion of Joe and Tina Simpson.
