Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson is losing all the baby weight she gained from her pregnancy with the help of Weight Watchers. The mom of baby Maxwell Drew even says she's only 10 pounds away from her pre-baby weight.

Pretty impressive, given she only gave birth in May.

She's putting in the work, but sources told RadarOnline that she wanted to lose the weight fast through lap band surgery. The problem? She was turned down!

"After having her daughter Maxwell, Jessica felt there was no way she could ever lose the weight on her own because she has struggled so much in the past and her post partum weight seemed to be growing," a friend told the website.

Now, take this report with a grain of salt, but it does bring up a good conversation about gastric surgeries. The procedures are incredibly beneficial for the morbidly obese, but they carry huge health risks. Still, some celebrities still opt to get the procedure.

Lauren Manzo

Lauren Manzo, the daughter of "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Caroline Manzo wasn't that big, but she opted for the lap band earlier this year. The reality star reportedly lost 30 pounds off her 185-pound frame.

"Getting the lap band was the best thing I've done in my life," she told US Weekly in June. "It's not a miracle button that lets you eat whatever you want . . . I wanted to try to lose weight on my own for a while."

Carnie Wilson

Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson's name is now synonymous when it comes to celebrity bariatric surgery. The singer went through a gastric bypass surgery - broadcast live on the web - in 1999. She eventually lost 150 lbs. and posed in Playboy, but the weight steadily came back until she was almost at her starting weight.

So, she opted to go through the surgery again.

"For two years I tried and couldn't lose the weight. I would lose 5 pounds but it would come back. I knew I needed to do something," Wilson told E! News in March. "For me it was about getting help. I am 44 and my body has changed as I get older. I was scared. …I needed an intervention."

Brian Dennehy

Actor Brian Dennehy built a career based on his larger-than-life frame, but he opted to get a lap band inserted when the weight started affecting his health. The result? He's a mere shadow of his former self.

Have you had bariatric surgery? Would you recommend it to others struggling with obesity?
