Jessica Simpson: 'I've had a lot of pressure on me to lose the baby weight'

Making her first TV appearance since she welcomed her daughter, Maxwell, in May, Jessica Simpson unveiled her post-baby body Monday on the premiere of Katie Couric’s new talk show, “Katie.” So how was the new mom feeling? Nervous.

In true Jessica style, the 32-year-old “Fashion Star” mentor sat down next to Couric and immediately revealed exactly what she was thinking at that moment. “I’m very nervous,” Simpson confessed. “I’ve just had a lot of pressure on me to lose the baby weight. Today was actually one of my goals: getting here and just feeling comfortable in a beautiful dress. And I’ve achieved it. I feel beautiful today. You know, it’s been a lot. My poor fiancé!”

The newest face of Weight Watchers, Jessica has lost more than 40 pounds since she and Eric Johnson welcomed their daughter, but when it came down specific numbers, she wasn’t talking. “It’s not about the number,” the stated the singer, refusing to reveal how many pounds she’s lost. “I have lost enough weight to where I can pat myself on the back. It’s a small child!” She added that she has consistently dropped pounds every week that she’s been on the plan and her goal is to lose the remaining baby weight by the time “Fashion Star” goes into production. “I want to [be able to wear all] the pretty dresses and designer gowns,” said Simpson, who runs her own billion-dollar fashion business. “I’m 10 pounds away from that. By the time we’re shooting, I should be even smaller.”

Speaking candidly about the weight she gained during her pregnancy, she said she mistakenly allowed herself to each whatever she wanted for nine months. “During pregnancy, I didn’t really think about it,” she said about her weight gain. “I thought my doctors were telling me that it was just a lot of water and whenever my water broke my whole entire stomach would go down, but that did not happen. All the weight did not come out with the baby. I’d have to really stay focused and focus on my diet and concentrate on what I’m putting in my body.”

Now she’s walking 14,000 steps a day – often with Maxwell in tow – for exercise and her diet has undergone a major overhaul. "The only fish I ever ate was a fish stick," laughed the Texas native, who talked about missing her favorite dishes like queso and slutty brownies. "Now I'm trying to eat fish." She’s also doing her best to concentrate on her personal goals, as well as ignore any public commentary about her waistline. "I definitely don't pick up the magazines. I definitely don't Google my name,” she noted. “I try to avoid it completely. But I subconsciously know the talk is going on. Every day it's a struggle for me.” To get through it, “I have to separate myself from the world's expectations," she shared. "I have to look inside myself. I want to be a role model."

As for her wedding plans with Johnson, they still haven’t set a date."It won't be this year,” she said. “We haven't had time. Maxwell has taken up all our time and I want a big wedding.” However, she did note that her main squeeze is an amazing father. "People call him the best dad in the world. He can do everything. He's just a very peaceful person."
